Russian Timber Journal 06-2023: Vitaly Demidenko, Sales Director at Sveza: “The period when the demand for birch plywood surpassed the supply in the available markets is over. The approach to sales changed too.”; According to the Rosleskhoz, in 2022, the Russian timber harvest dropped by 13% YoY, down to 194.6 million m³ — the lowest since 2014; The Government of the Russian Federation adopted a decree that stipulates government support for transporting timber industry products via sea ports located in the Northwestern Federal District; The Federation Council suggests that the Cabinet of Ministers introduce prohibitive import duties on several types of furniture, paper, and packaging from unfriendly countries; Essity has completed the divestment of its operations in Russia for a purchase price of approximately $117 million or RUB 10.6 billion; Luzales will build a plywood plant in the Omsk region with a capacity of 60,000 m³ per year; in June 2023, the plywood output grew by 3.5% compared to June 2022, when Russian plywood mills were still able to export their products to EU countries.
