Germany: Stable pellet prices at the beginning of the year
In January 2021, the price for wood pellets in Germany was at the usual stable level. The return to the regular VAT rate of 7% has resulted in a slight price increase.
According to a survey by the German Pellet Institute (DEPI), one ton (t) of pellets costs an average of € 238.05 in January 2021 (purchase of 6 t). That is 2.1% more than in December 2020, but 9.2% less than a year ago. The kilo price is accordingly 23.81 cents, the kilowatt hour (kWh) of heat from pellets costs 4.76 cents.
Regarding the price of wood pellets, the following regional differences arise in January 2021 (purchase quantity 6 t): In southern Germany, the price for pellets is again cheapest at 235.70 € / t. In central Germany it is 236.63 € / t, in the north / east region it is 244.74 € / t.
Larger quantities (26 t) will be traded in January 2021 under the following conditions: South – € 221.29/t; Central – € 220.19/t, North/East – € 229.48 / t (all including VAT).
