World Bank: Ministry of forestry of Belarus has established itself as a reliable partner

According to the press service of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus, the World Bank positively assesses the progress of the project “Development of the forest sector of the Republic of Belarus”. This was announced on February 11, 2019, during a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of forestry, head of the World Bank Office in Belarus Alex Kremer. According to him, over the years of cooperation, the Ministry of Forestry has established itself as a reliable partner.

According to him, over the years of cooperation, the Ministry of Forestry has established itself as a reliable partner.

In April 2015, the Government of the Republic of Belarus represented by the Ministry of Forestry and the International Bank for reconstruction and development signed a Loan Agreement for the project “Development of the forest sector of the Republic of Belarus”. The IBBD provided our country with a loan in the amount of 40,714 million US dollars. These funds were invested in the construction of modern seed centers for the cultivation of planting material with a closed root system, the purchase of necessary equipment and equipment. After analyzing the progress of the Project, in March 2018, the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank decided to allocate additional funding to our country in the amount of 12 million euros. It is expected that these funds will increase the scope of individual activities initiated under the initial Project.

By the way, the Main objectives of the project “Development of the forest sector of the Republic of Belarus” is to increase the efficiency of afforestation, reforestation, and afforestation, increase the use of felling residues. In total, more than 90 forestry institutions of the country are involved in the implementation of the project.

Minister of Forestry Vitaly Drozhzha thanked Alex Kremer and the group of experts for the fruitful work. He noted that the implementation of the project “Development of the forest sector of the Republic of Belarus” has significantly strengthened the material and technical base of forestry, improve the quality of work. Vitaliy Drozhzha also stressed that the work on the implementation of the Project continues. Thus, this year it is planned to build a forest seed center in the Mogilev region.

“We all see what is the impact of climate change on the sustainability of forests. And we all understand that this is not a problem of a single country, but a global problem. Therefore, it is important to move forward”, – concluded the head of the industry.
