13 February 2019 ` 14:00

The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko has proposed to impose an embargo on the export of timber to restore order in this sphere. Interfax reported on February 12, 2019.

“There is no control (in this sphere). Rosleskhoz is limited to certain recommendations instead of preparing and making changes to the legislation that will bring order, strengthen control, stop illegal logging,” Matvienko said at a meeting of the Council of legislators with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. – Maybe we just don’t understand and don’t take no public action to stop a while timber abroad.”

Matvienko appealed to Medvedev with a request to charge any Department “urgently to prepare changes in the legislation and to take measures for prevention of illegal cutting down and export of the wood”.
