In Russia, the widespread introduction of multi-storey wooden housing construction will be ensured

The Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia have approved an Action Plan (roadmap) for the development of wooden housing construction for the period up to 2024. The document provides for the organization of joint work of departments with AFK Sistema and the Association of Wooden House Construction to improve technical regulation and expand the scope of use of wooden structures.

The roadmap provides for carrying out a whole complex of research and development works (R&D) aimed at ensuring fire, mechanical and seismic safety of objects made of wooden structures. For example, this year the minimum safe fire-fighting distances between buildings will be determined using the field modeling method. The results of R&D will solve a number of problems that limit the widespread implementation of the practice of wooden house construction, which are associated with seismic resistance, laying of engineering systems, low thermal and sound insulation characteristics of materials, their maintainability, the need to perform constructive fire protection.

At the same time, it is planned to prepare projects of pilot facilities – public and residential buildings from 3 to 12 floors, built of cross-glued wood (CLT), laminated laminated timber and the same material from veneer (LVL).

Another significant block of measures of the roadmap is the adjustment of the regulatory framework based on the research and practical work carried out. The plan provides for both updating existing and developing new regulatory and technical documents for the development of wooden housing construction.

In addition, at the moment, the Vologda region is building pilot four-storey apartment buildings using CLT structures, which is planned to be completed by the end of 2022.
