By 2030, the volume of wooden housing in Russia can grow to 30 million m2

According to the Association of wooden housing construction the volume of construction of wooden houses in Russia can be assessed in the amount of 11.5 million square meters in 2017 and 11.2 million square meters in 2018, and the volume of production of wooden houses of factory manufacturing is 3.5-4 million sq. m. Real estimated share of construction with the use of wooden structures is 13-14% of the total volume of residential construction in the country and more than 30% in the segment of the population the construction of low-rise buildings (1-3 floors).

In 2017, the most popular technology was frame house building (more than 46%), the construction of laminated veneer lumber accounted for 20.7%, mixed technology is used in 20.3% of the total production.

To stimulate the development of wooden housing in Russia, the Association experts suggest using a set of measures. This is the development of the regulatory framework for the construction of four – and five-storey houses; the creation of a mechanism and conditions for Russian banks to issue mortgage loans for the purchase and/or construction of houses made of wood and the possibility of using the insurance mechanism in wooden housing.

The implementation of all these measures under the most optimistic scenario will increase the demand for wooden housing construction (by 7-9% in the medium term and by 10-12% in the long term) and thus increase the volume of wooden housing construction to 30 million square meters by 2030.

The share of wooden housing construction in low-rise housing construction can grow to the level of 35-37% by 2030 (now about 30%), and the share in multi-storey and non-residential construction will be 2-3% by 2030.

In a pessimistic scenario, by 2030 the industry will approach with the same result as in 2014 – there will be no growth.
