Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia: the growth of melamine prices is now under control
On July 6, an inter-agency meeting was held the Ministry of Industry and Trade, initiated by the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia and attended by the Department of Light Industry and Forestry Complex, as well as the Department of Chemical Engineering and Bio Engineering Technologies. At this meeting, Eurochem and Metafrax, the major melamine producers, confirmed that they saw no reasons for further growth of melamine prices.
Melamine can account for 10% of the cost of laminated particleboards and MDF boards, so furniture producers are extremely sensitive to any changes in its value. Over the past 5 months, the melamine prices increased by 30–35% and have now reached 114,000 rubles per ton, VAT inclusive. In 2021, however, the price of this component was even higher, reaching up to 260,000 rubles per ton.
“The prompt response of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and further control of price trends are particularly important for us,” noted Timur Irtuganov, Director General at the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia. “Unfortunately, some of our industry-specific problems do not have any acceptable solutions in the short term for objective reasons, while other problems can be solved pretty quickly. The situation with the cost of melamine is one of the positive examples.”.
