The Ministry of Industry and Trade received a proposal from the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia to increase import duties on wooden and cushioned furniture and mattresses from Europe from 8.5-12% to 50%. The increased duty will be applicable to producers from unfriendly countries, the Association explained. This measure is aimed at supporting the development of Russian furniture producers.

Two more executive bodies besides the Ministry of Industry and Trade are involved in these considerations – the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Development, Timur Irtuganov, Director General of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, told the Izvestia newspaper.
