Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia suggests banning veneer logs export and imposing duties on birch veneer
The Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia suggested imposing safeguard duties on birch veneer export and banning veneer logs export. One of the reasons for such a decision was the recent resolution of the European Commission regarding imposition of final anti-dumping duties on Russian birch plywood. The Association expects a severe shortage of plywood raw material due to its growing export in the nearest future.
“The resolution of the European Commission that obviously hurts the interests of domestic woodworking and its powerhouses – birch plywood producers – deserves a response in kind,” Timur Irtuganov, Director General of Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, asserts.
The Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia has developed corresponding proposals on stricter government regulation of exporting logs and semi-finished products made of them and will submit them to the Government of the Russian Federation in the nearest future. According to Timur Irtuganov, these measures are supported by 90% of Russian woodworking enterprises.
