The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation is agreeing on the ban on government purchases of foreign furniture with other departments
The draft government’s decree extending the ban on purchases of foreign furniture by state and municipal institutions until the end of 2021 prepared by the Ministry of Industry and Trade has already been approved by the Ministry of Economic Development.
The moratorium on purchases of foreign furniture (except for the furniture produced in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union) for government needs was introduced in 2017 and expired in December 2019.
“The draft government’s decree prepared by the Ministry of Industry and Trade provides for a ban on purchases of certain types of furniture and woodworking products originating from foreign countries (except for the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union) within procurements for government and municipal needs. The ban is to be introduced for two years, i.e. until the end of 2021,” said Viktor Yevtukhov, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
The document was sent for approval to the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Finance, and the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) in July 2019. “The draft decree was approved by the Ministry of Economic Development. The Ministry of Finance and FAS did not approve it, so the lists of disagreements were signed with them,” the deputy minister added.
