Sweden: Continued decline in area of forest notified for final felling

In March 2021 the area of notifications and applications for permit for final felling was down by 4% compared with March 2020, according to new statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency. The area of applications in montane forests was over four times larger compared to March 2020.

The total area of ​​applications and notifications in 1Q 2021 for the whole country amounted to 54,945 ha. That is a decrease of 5% compared with the first quarter 2020. Applications for final felling of montane forests amounted to 3,152 ha, which is just over four times larger compared with 1Q 2020.

Notified and applied area in 1Q 2021 decreased by 20% in Svealand, by 6% in Northern Norrland and by 4% in Southern Norrland, compared with 1Q 2020. In Götaland, the notified and applied area increased by 9%.
