Sveza does not exclude growth of prices for Russian plywood
Sveza Group does not exclude growth of prices for Russian-made plywood, as said in the press release of the company. The appreciation of plywood can be triggered by two factors: wood shortage and price growth, as well as considerable reduction of phenol manufacturing.
Due to the early spring thaw in the European part of Russia, harvesting season was 4-6 weeks shorter than usual, and the average quality of wood is also lower than in previous years. Shortage of raw materials in different regions, according to the company, will amount to 10-20%, and will mainly be felt in September-November 2014. Small producers of plywood in the European part of Russia may stop production then.
On 6 March, Omsky Kautchuk plant, the leading manufacturer of phenol in Russia, was caught on fire, and went out of capacity for 6-12 months. Missing volumes are replaced by imports and products of SANOS company. This should lead to growth of prices for phenol resins by at least 5%, and taking into account the decrease of the rouble rate, possibly even more.
