Sergey Furgal: “Pulp production is a promising direction for the development of the forest sector of the economy of the Khabarovsk territory»
At the plenary session on Russian-Indian cooperation, the Governor of the Khabarovsk territory noted:
“A promising direction for the development of the forest sector of the economy of the region can be the implementation of a project for the deep chemical processing of wood – pulp production. The existing transport and power infrastructure allows to place capacities on production of 500,000 tons of cellulose. The developed logistics infrastructure, including the Baikal-Amur mainline, the Trans-Siberian railway, the Amur River and the outlets to the ports of the Japanese and Okhotsk seas allow for the effective transportation of the products.”
Mr. Furgal believes that the products of forest industry enterprises are in demand in foreign markets. This is evidenced by the fact that 90% of the total output is exported. The main types are lumber, veneer, fuel pellets.
At the moment, more than 100 countries of the world are trade partners of the Khabarovsk territory. In 2018, the foreign trade turnover of the region amounted to $3.1 billion. Trade with India amounted to $18.3 million.
