Wood-based panels market in Russia 05-2021: demand and prices for OSB and plywood have significantly risen since the beginning of the summer construction season

14 June 2021 ` 16:28

The increased demand for OSB and plywood is traditionally conditioned by the construction season. Despite the rise in prices of these products, the demand on the part of traders, construction companies, and buyers is not declining since the number of gardeners after the coronavirus season has increased significantly. Young families buy old, dilapidated, and abandoned garden plots in the suburbs to renovate them. The growth in the demand is also facilitated by a new program of soft mortgage loans with state support for the purchase of apartments, houses in rural areas, as well as for the construction of housing in the countryside.

The production capacities of major Russian producers retired in 2020 are still something to reckon with due to the shortage of wood-based panels.

Wood-based panels market in Russia aims at monitoring the current market prices for wood-based panels, analyzing the reasons for their changes, and providing short-term forecasts. Market prices are monitored based on three key metrics: retail price index, producer price index, and export price index. The methodology for collecting data on the prices is based on surveys of wood-based panel producers, traders, distributors, and furniture factories.
