The Japanese Sojits Building Materials Corporation may become a shareholder of BM Sakhalin, as Interfax – Far East news agency reported with a reference to the BM Sakhalin CEO Konstantin Beznosyuk.

BM Sakhalin is now building a large timber industry complex worth 4 billion roubles in the Sakhalin region. The project is in the stage of harvesting arrangement, in November the company intends to export the first 3,000 m3 batch of logs to Japan.

For the construction of forest roads, purchase of equipment and logging itself, 200 million roubles will be invested this year from the regional budget and another 100 million from the funds of the head company in Khabarovsk, Business Marketing JSC.

The construction of the complex, which will process 700 thousand m3 of wood, will start next year. It will produce sawn timber, veneer and wood pellets.

Next year the company will also invest 1.2 billion roubles in the development of nearby Aleksandrovsk-Sakhalinsky sea port, namely in berths repair and dredging. Now the wood is delivered from the north of the island by rail to the port of Kholmsk, which makes exports more expensive.
