Government of the Russian Federation is planning to set the priorities of sawn timber transportation eastwards by railway
On November 28, Viktoria Abramchenko, Deputy Chair of the Government of the Russian Federation, who supervises the timber industry, sent a letter to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Transport, instructing them to consider, in collaboration with Russian Railways, the amendment of temporary rules of determining the sequence of cargo transportation, specifically, prioritizing sawn timber transportation eastwards, by December 12, as reported by Kommersant.
Timber enterprises from the Northwestern Federal District had previously addressed the Government several times, asking to subsidize their railway transportation costs by 50 – 100% with no cap on the total amount, and also to set the monthly quota on dispatching direct container trains to China and Far Eastern ports by Russian Railways for each producer.
At the moment, logistics subsidies may not exceed 300 million rubles. Russian Railways had emphasized that cargos from industries that contribute the most to the defense are dispatched first.
