Global Wood, Timber and Pulp & Paper Conferences 2014

This infographics presents industry conferences known to WhatWood which seem to be the most valuable for businesses dealing with the Russian timber & PPI market. These events are held mostly apart from trade fairs and exhibitions and have busy business-focused agenda and interesting speakers. The list is made according to WhatWood editorial views and no reward was given for any promotion of these events.

European Pellet Conference
February 26-27
Wels, Austria
One of the biggest events of the year in the biofuel industry, held in the framework of the World Sustainable Energy Days – the programme includes visits to industrial sites and discussion on the markets, certification, project financing, energy policy and new technologies.

Spring Biofuel Congress
March (exact date to be announced)
Saint-Petersburg, Russia
The annual forum organized by wood-pellets.com portal and supported by the Russian edition of Bioenergy International journal. The programme includes presentations and discussions on the market of pellets and briquettes in Russia and globally, on technologies and financing of biofuel projects.

Russian Wood & Timber
April 1-3
Moscow, Russia
The main event in the Russian woodworking industry for the fifth year in a row will gather top managers of leading companies. The arrangers take into account the wishes of the participants every year and bring considerable changes to the event format. This year the programme of the first day, for example, will contain a session which takes a look at the industry from end-users viewpoint.

Invest in Forest
May 6-7
Riga, Latvia
Last year not a single Russian businessman visited this event – it is either unknown or underestimated in this country. Meanwhile, although part of the discussions are devoted to the topic of investments into private forest assets, which is currently irrelevant for Russia, other sessions are related to the markets of forest products from the point of view of investors and bank analysts from Nordic and Baltic countries – these speakers are hardly ever reachable in Russia.

Global Softwood Log & Lumber Conference
May 7
Vancouver, Canada
An important and very informative forum in the calendar of timber producers, which is organized by the well-known Canadian consultant company International Wood Markets. The programme scope includes the markets of Japan, China, Russia, Europe, and North America.

Global Wood Industry Forum
May 12-14
Guangzhou, China
Wood Guangzhou is the biggest exhibition of timber manufacturers in China. This year, the organizers decided to hold their own business forum. It is yet difficult to say how strong will be the speaker line-up, but in any case it is difficult to overestimate the business opportunities that open up in communication with experts at the largest forum of the biggest timber market in the world.

Euroconstruct
June 12-13
Oslo, Norway
The construction industry determines the state of the forest products market in Europe and worldwide. That is why a timber industry professional may be interested to look at the industry from the end-user viewpoint: the participants will discuss construction policy, technologies and make market predictions for 2014-2016.

China/Global Wood Products Conference
September 15-16
Qingdao, China
Another regular event organized by Wood Markets. The programme will also comprise discussions on global markets of the forest industry, but the special value of this event lies in the opportunity to take part in two industrial tours to the mills of China and Eastern Siberia, which will be held close to the conference dates.

International Forest Industry Forum
September 30 – October 2
Saint-Petersburg, Russia
An important event for the Russian timber industry, mainly from a political point of view, as it gathers not only businessmen and scientists, but also Russian officials, who unfortunately rarely attend such events.

International Softwood Conference
October 16-17
Berlin, Germany
Probably the most important conference for the European sawmilling industry. It is supported by the EOS association and collects chief executives of the largest companies. The programme primarily includes analysis of the market and the industrial policy. Every year the conference is held at a new venue – this time in Berlin.

PAP-FOR Russia
October 28-31
Saint-Petersburg, Russia
Leading industry experts discuss investment projects and markets of the Russian pulp and paper industry at the largest Eastern European exhibition of pulp and paper industry.

Wood Fibre, Resource & Trade Conference
November 3-4
Santiago, Chile
Among arrangers of this event are consultants of Wood Resources International (US). Although this year the conference will take place on the edge of the world, from the point of view of Russians, visiting it makes sense, as it is the raw materials which will be in the heavy focus of discussions: biofuel markets in Asia and competition for raw materials in Europe; trade flows and consumption forecasts of sawlogs, pulpwood, and wood chips.

Pulp & Paper in Russia & CIS
December (exact date to be announced)
Vienna, Austria
The second event by Adam Smith Conferences in the business calendar – a traditional December meeting of top managers of Russian pulp and paper industry in Austria. The history of the event reaches nearly 20 years, and it has always involved heads of almost all the major companies in the industry.
