Federal Customs Service will cancel the duty on furniture hardware from China
In the fall of 2024, the Russian Customs Service introduced an almost 66% duty on imported Chinese furniture hardware. The Federal Customs Service started re-qualifying this product, changing its HS Code, and applying the new duty. The Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia consequently forecast that the cost of Russian furniture would grow by approximately 15%.
In December, Valery Pikalev, Head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, met with Timur Irtuganov, Director General of the Association, and representatives of the business community to discuss the results of the efforts on resolving the issue of classifying goods in the “furniture bearing carriers” category.
The Federal Customs Service of Russia took the required organizational actions and developed an opinion on classifying these goods as “furniture bearing carriers”. This opinion was communicated to the customs authorities as an operational guideline. According to the Association’s press office, “furniture bearing carriers will not be re-classified.”
