Boiler facilities in Karelia can be switched to biofuels

9 September 2022 ` 14:17

Alexander Chepik, Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Karelia, held a meeting with representatives of the wood pellet industry. Previously, the products of the regional timber industry were mainly supplied to Europe. Under the new circumstances, however, producers not only lost target markets, but also faced logistical problems.

In June 2022, Artur Parfenchikov, head of the region, approved of a plan of support measures to be provided to timber enterprises, including the proposal to use wood pellets for the regional fuel and energy industry. So far, it is proposed to switch about 15 boiler houses of the region to biofuel; the said facilities supply heat to social facilities.
