To support the development of domestic furniture production, the terms of the decree No. 1072 on the ban on the import of foreign furniture to Russia are planned to be increased

Last week, 22 January 2019 held a working meeting of Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Alexey Gordeev and the President of the Association of furniture and woodworking industry of Russia Alexander Shestakov. The meeting discussed the development of the forest complex, in particular, furniture production and production of wood boards and plywood.

In terms of support for the development of domestic furniture production, such issues as the prolongation of the Decree of the government of the Russian Federation of September 5, 2017 No. 1072 “on the establishment of a ban on the admission of certain types of furniture and woodworking products originating from foreign countries (except for the member States of the Eurasian Economic Union) for the purposes of procurement for state and municipal needs”were considered. Particular attention was paid to the issue of providing standard housing with built-in furniture.

In addition, Alexander Nikolayevich stressed the importance of environmental issues in the production of furniture products (harmonization of formaldehyde emission requirements with international standards, recycling of wood products, wood waste).

In the part of the slab and plywood industry, issues on state support measures were discussed. It is proposed to expand the list of enterprises in the Federal List (to expand at the expense of city-forming enterprises and organizations that have a significant impact on the industry), to allocate subsidies to exporters to compensate for transport costs.

Also at the meeting, issues related to the holding of industry Congress and exhibition events, increasing the permissible mass of the vehicle from 44 tons to 55 tons, providing enterprises-responsible forest users with raw materials were identified.

All questions are issued in the form of official letters with proposals, which were considered and accepted for work at the end of the meeting.
