Sudoma sawmill opened the biggest furniture boards production site in the Pskov Region
Sudoma sawmill launched a new production shop to make furniture boards, rough-sawn and cut-to-exact size furniture blanks with the capacity of 8,400 m³ of product per year in Dedovichi urban settlement, Pskov Region. This is the region’s biggest production facility making furniture boards.
This new line of business is launched within an investment project on Upgrading Timber Processing Facilities for Value-Added Wood Processing at Sudoma Sawmill LLC in the Pskov Region, which was included in the list of priority investment projects in the forest sector by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The total project investment value exceeds 670 million rubles. The new 3,000 m² shop will produce furniture boards from hardwood species (primarily birch), rough-sawn and cut-to-exact size furniture blanks, furniture parts and interior materials for finishing and decoration.
According to Sudoma sawmill’s estimates, the volume of furniture boards export from Russia reached $24.2 million in 2020, specifically $1.36 million (about 8%) worth of birch furniture boards export. The key consumers of birch product were companies from Lithuania, Poland, China and Germany. In H1 2021, the combined furniture boards export volume from Russia reached over $17 million, whereas the birch product export volume of $1.37 million has already exceeded the 2020 performance.
