WhatWood started preparation of the 4th annual review Russian Forest Industry 2014

9 February 2015 ` 14:35

The timber industry analytics agency WhatWood started preparation of the 4th annual analytical review “Russian Forest Industry in 2014”. As usual, at this time of the year we summarize the results of the past year. The market conditions for the Russian forestry sector in 2014 changed dramatically. The difficult economic situation in Russia and the tumultuous events in the global politics has closed almost all possibilities for large-scale credits and equipment modernization.

Simultaneously, the strong devaluation of the ruble has allowed export-oriented Russian forest industry to get extra profits. It is obvious that under new economic conditions the forest sector is becoming a subject of increased attention for the state, possibly an additional source of budget income.

However, the price situation on the timber export markets remained difficult throughout 2014, and according to estimations for 2015, further stagnation and increased competition is expected. Such factors as stagnating construction market in China, strong growth for roundwood prices in Russia, increase of tariffs for railway transportation by 10%, indexation of forest lease payments create an unfavorable background for operations.

We invite you to take a look at the results of 2014 for the timber industry of Russia.
