A detailed account on the Russian timber industry: WhatWood starts preparation of Annual Review 2013

27 December 2013 ` 00:25

WhatWood News & Analytics agency starts the preparation of Russian Forest Industry Annual Review 2013. Releasing this review for the third year in a row, we rely on our previous experience, however, we also introduce a number of fundamental changes. We have reconsidered the approach to both the structure of the material and its visual presentation.

We know that timber merchants often lack the orderly and visual reference information at hand, and foreign companies do not have much data about what’s going on in Russia. For this purpose, we have developed a number of useful supplements to the annual review: Russia’s Forest Industry Top 100, summing-up publication with wood & timber prices in 2013 in Russia and its export markets (35 illustrative price charts), the catalogue of priority investment projects in Russia and some other tools.

Knowing the existing difficulty in obtaining adequate and reliable statistic data from state bodies, WhatWood will focus on the provision of exclusive information and private assessments. The basis of statistical information will be made of data obtained directly from the participants of the forest industry community. In this report, we strive to show credible information, giving an objective assessment of the situation in the forest industry of the country in 2013. This objective aims at increasing the transparency of the whole timber industry, as well as improvement of its investment attractiveness and efficiency of its branches.

Given the acute problem of depletion of forest resources in many regions of the country, WhatWood will show wood commodity balance in the leading wood-excessive areas with detailed commodity flows. As the forest industry of Russia is export-oriented, we will also carry out the analysis of export trade flows of Russian companies. The main export markets of Russian products (China, Japan, Europe and the Middle East) will be in the focus. Special attention will be paid to the complex analysis of the current situation; short-term outlook for development of forest-based industries will be presented.

We hope for the interest from the participants of the forest community and will be grateful for any assistance in the preparation of this review.
