In the Sverdlovsk region at least 700 seeds of coniferous trees for sowing in the spring of 2019 will be harvested

The national project “Ecology” assumes special attention to the reproduction of forest resources, the press service of the government of the Sverdlovsk region. To carry out the sowing campaign in the spring of 2019 in the Sverdlovsk region, it is necessary to prepare at least 700 kilograms of coniferous seeds – pines, firs, larch. To obtain this amount, it is necessary to collect and process at least 70 tons of cones. In spring, the seeds will be sown in greenhouses and nurseries of forest areas, and only in two years the seedlings grown from the seeds can be used for reforestation.

Harvesting of seeds of coniferous trees, forestry specialists is carried out in the winter. In addition to the usual harvest and the so-called improved seeds. Such a seed plantation is on the territory of Sysert forestry. It is obtained by growing pine trees from the seeds of trees, that is, trees with better characteristics in height, completeness, and quality of wood. Each plus tree is listed in the register and has its own passport and number.

The cones collected on a forest seed plantation are processed on drying of cones. Here they are heated at a temperature of 56 degrees, they open and fall into the drum. Torsional seeds out from the cones, they are collected, cleaned of debris, the release of seeds (fruits) from wing-like appendages (appendages) and placed in glass bottles for storage. Each batch of seeds will be examined, receive a certificate of quality and in the spring will be used for sowing in nurseries and greenhouses forestry.

“Last year, 19 kilograms of improved seeds were obtained from the forest seed plantation of the Sysert forestry pine. In total, 69 kilograms of seeds were harvested in the forestry. This is enough to sow one hectare. As a result, more than 1.2 million pieces of quality planting material can be obtained from this hectare for reforestation. This is enough to restore more than 400 hectares of forest”, – said the Director of the Sysert forestry Igor Vereshchagin.
