Timber exports from Russia to China through Suifenhe sharply increased in Q1
In January-March 2014, a sharp increase was registered in the imports of wood from Russia through the border town of Suifenhe (Heilongjiang province), as Xinhua agency reported. Deliveries of roundwood increased by 38% year-on-year up to 990 thousand m3, sawn timber – by 66% to 310 thousand m3, pulp – by 51.5% to 56 thousand tonnes.
On the Russian side of the border from Suifenhe, Grodekovo railway station is located (Primorsky region).
Analysts explain the sharp increase in imports by the ban on commercial logging in state forests of Heilongjiang province, a fact about which we wrote recently in Global Trends.
Through the border point Grodekovo-Suifenhe, Far Eastern companies mostly export round timber and sawnwood from pine and larch.
