Sveza’s Saint Petersburg production facility makes the first batch of maximum size plywood sheets

Sveza’s Saint Petersburg production facility has produced the first batch of 8 × 12 feet (2440 × 3660 mm) plywood. This size of plywood is in great demand in the automotive industry as it makes it possible to increase the carrying capacity and cargo space of box trucks and trailers.

The manufacturing process was developed and monitored by experts with Sveza’s Technological Development Centre in Saint Petersburg. A total of 10 sheets have been manufactured in thicknesses of 9 mm and 21 mm. The new product was ordered by a major domestic road transport manufacturer.

One large 8 × 12 plywood sheet is manufactured by joining three smaller sheets using mitred butt joints. This means each sheet first had its butt ends cut at an angle. The resulting surfaces of two sheets were glued together and then cold-pressed. The results of the tests of the chemical and physical properties are impressive: the glued seam proved to be stronger than the rest of the sheet.

Trial samples have been shipped to the client for tests. Once the tests are completed, a decision will be made about further purchases.
