Segezha Group may reorient the Segezha West project to new products

21 March 2023 ` 19:10

It was reported by TASS referencing an announcement by Oleg Ermolaev, Minister of Economic Development and Industry of Karelia. The Segezha West project in Karelia could be implemented by a different schedule because some specific features of production need to be changed. The design of the new pulp and paper mill was approved by the state expert review in late 2022.

The Segezha West project involved building a new pulp and paper mill in Segezha worth a total of 178 billion rubles. The construction was due to start in 2022.

In October 2022, Segezha Group reconsidered its plans of launching a new pulp and paper mill in Karelia. The company shared the difficulty of building a plant in this region due to the unavailability of the European market and challenges with production equipment supplies. Segezha Group declared that implementing the Segezha East project (building a new pulp and paper mill in the Krasnoyarsk Region) oriented at Asian markets was a higher priority for the company.
