North-Western shipping company boosted timber deliveries by 70%
During the shipping season, from 25 April to 15 November, 2013, vessels of North-Western shipping company transported 370,000 tonnes of timber cargoes, which is 70% higher than last year.
Transportation from the river ports of North-West Russia to the European ports grew threefold compared with the previous year, up to 200,000 tonnes. Pulpwood deliveries amounted to 152,000 tonnes, representing a 2.5-times growth.
In transportation of timber cargoes, new ships were involved for the first time, Neva-Leader with the capacity of 7,000 tonnes. The first experimental cruise in May 2013 carried 6,300 m3 of coniferous pulplogs from Podporozhye to Finland. The use of this vessel has shown its high efficiency in wood transportation, as the shipping company said in a statement.
In the shipping season of 2014, the company intends to increase the volume of timber cargoes delivery from the ports of Volga-Baltic Route to the ports of Scandinavia and Western Europe using Neva-Leader and other ships of the river-sea navigation type.
