IKEA Germany sees a sharp increase in online sales

13 November 2020 ` 16:28

IKEA Germany closed the 2020 financial year (September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020) with retail sales of € 5.325 billion, which corresponds to an increase of 0.9% compared to the previous year. Online sales amounted to € 861 million and thus grew by 74.3%. The online share of total sales was 16.2% – in the previous year it was 9.4%.

After a successful start, the lockdown and the associated closure of all IKEA furniture stores led to a temporary drop in sales of 90%. At the same time, sales generated online rose by leaps and bounds. “The fact that we were able to close the past financial year so successfully despite the pandemic is due to the fact that we were able to adapt our business to the changed framework conditions at record speed: The expansion of Click & Collect and the online planning and consulting service made a significant contribution to the fact that we could continue to be there for our customers “, says Dennis Balslev, Managing Director and CSO of IKEA Germany.
