Half of wood pellets produced in Russia remains in the domestic market

16 January 2024 ` 19:15

According to WhatWood estimates, the wood pellet output in Russia was around 185,000 t in November 2023 and 1.7 million t over 11 months of 2023. The total 2023 wood pellet output in Russia will stay at the level of 1.9 million t compared to 2.6 million t in 2022.

The wood pellet export reached 848,000 t in January – November 2023, which is 50% below the performance in January – November 2022. No more than 950,000 t of wood pellets will most probably be exported from Russia in 2023. It can therefore be concluded that a half of all produced wood pellets (around 950,000 t) remained in the domestic market in 2023. Although initiatives on using this biofuel are under active discussion in some Russian regions, this volume is unlikely to have been consumed within the country.
