Forest plantations to be established near Vologda for Sveza’s new PPM
The development of timber industry cluster in Vologda region will require additional assistance of the Forestry Agency and establishment of fast-growing wood plantations for the new pulp and paper mill, said the governor of the region Oleg Kuvshinnikov at a meeting with the head of Forestry Agency Vladimir Lebedev, Russian Forestry News reported.
The region is now preparing construction of Europe’s largest pulpmill. The project was initiated by Sveza Group with the support of the government of the region. In order to provide the enterprise with raw materials, the regional government allocated forest areas with the annual allowable cut of 5 million m3. In some areas, additional financing is required for inventory and cadastral works.
The governor suggested to allocate RUR 540 million from the federal budget in 2014-2016 for the construction of forest roads, since a large part of the forest stock reserved for the pulpmill project is located in remote forest areas. For three years, it is necessary to build 300 km of forest roads under public-private partnership scheme, Kuvshinnikov said.
