In June 2020, WhatWood Analytics Agency completed its annual analytic survey Plywood Market in Russia 2019-2020. Here is the summary and key conclusions.

In 2019, plywood production in Russia basically remained at the last year’s level of 4 million m³ +1.1% (YoY). The surplus of plywood supply in the global market and low prices contained production growth in Russia, despite low prices for veneer logs in the domestic market.

WhatWood data shows that installed plywood production capacity in Russia equals 5.1 million m³. The average annual growth rate of plywood production in Russia over the last 5 years was 4%, while the industry average for companies’ utilization was 79%. Over the past 4 years, plywood consumption in the domestic market stabilized at the level of 1.4 million m³ a year.

According to the available current statistics, plywood export from Russia continues growing confidently over the 5 months of 2020.  In January through May 2020, 1.193 million m³ of plywood was exported from Russia: +6.9% YoY.
