Read in the latest issue of our monthly review of Russian sawmilling industry WhatWood Russian Monthly Lumber Report #15 (October 2016):

  • Seasonal decline of timber supplies to lumber mills in late September and October has resulted in decrease in production and export of lumber from Russia. Sales to export markets has decreased by 6.2% (m/m).
  • For the first time in a long time, Arkaim enterprise (Khabarovsk Krai, Vanino) has become the largest Russian exporter of sawn softwood on monthly results, while 90% of its products has been sold to the Chinese market.
  • Large amount of Siberian larch lumber was shipped to Europe by Yakut enterprise Almas.
  • Despite the high demand for lumber in Egypt, the supply of Russian sawn wood products continues to decline. The lowest export value since February 2011 was supplied from Russia in October 2016 — 84 thousand m3. Only products of Lesosibirsky LDK №1 and Novoyeniseiskiy LHK are presented in the market in sufficient volumes. Scandinavian producers are taking advantage of the situation and increasing shipments to Egypt. In particular, in the second quarter of 2016 Finland has increased shipments by 17% (q\q).
  • Shipments of rough spruce lumber has reduced by 10%.
  • Price index for rough spruce lumber in Japan, KD&GR (Picea abies Karst.) has increased by $16 to $240/m3 in October 2016.
