Svetlogorsk Pulp and Paper Mill intends to stop using a considerable share of its leased forest fund
The Novy Prospect publication referencing the Committee for Natural Resources of the Leningrad Region reports that Svetlogorsk Pulp and Paper Mill plans to give up some of its leased forest areas. The company has lease contracts for 7 forest areas with a total area of 193,200 ha and the AAC of 361,000 m³.
“In November 2022, Svetlogorsk Pulp and Paper Mill notified the Committee of its intention to terminate all contracts on lease of forest areas starting from December 31, 2022. Once the termination procedure is completed, we are planning to lease out the freed-up forest areas based on the results of open-auction electronic bids,” the authority reports.
Svetlogorsk Pulp and Paper Mill currently leases forest areas in the Kirishsky, Tosnensky, Volosovsky, and Tikhvinsky Districts of the Leningrad Region. Svetlogorsk Pulp and Paper Mill will supposedly keep harvesting only 100,000 m³ in the Tikhvinsky District and terminate lease contracts on all other areas. The company thus intends to stop harvesting up to 260,000 m³ of timber per year.
