Segezha pulp and paper mill carried out major repairs of paper machine №9
During the 5-day planned stop at Segezha PPM Segezha Group (part of AFK “System”) carried out major repairs of the paper machine №9. During the shutdown, more than 150 specialists worked on technological, dismantling and installation works around the clock.
Modernized milling low concentrations: mill is equipped with the latest production of the Finnish company Valmet, the new shaft-pickup Voith group and the shafts of the 3rd press, the new Central lubricating system of the dryer section. The works were carried out in the framework of the complex modernization program of the plant.
BDM-9 was installed on the CCS in the early 70-ies of XX century. For nearly half a century history the most part of the equipment developed the resource. In 2018, the specialists of the paper mill conducted an audit and determined the period of repair work – no later than the first quarter of 2019.
According to the head of paper production of Segezha pulp and paper mill Ruslan Brown, a serious upgrade required grinding of low concentration, old mills lagged behind the market requirements: for a confident sale requires high strength characteristics of our paper.
“Sack paper must have certain properties in contact with various bagged materials. It is impossible to lose quality of paper, it is important to provide durability, moisture absorption and other characteristics of paper providing good operational properties”, – the chief of paper production explained.
Besides mills for BDM-9 was replaced by several trees, including the major Val-truck manufacturing concern Voith, which provides the removal of the paper from the forming mesh. The shafts of the third press are also replaced, a new scraper beam of the DST type is installed on the upper shaft, which will allow avoiding breakage on the 3rd press.
During the shutdown, the forming grid was also replaced, a wider size of 7200 mm was installed, this will improve the molding of the web. Hundreds of bearings and mechanisms were audited and replaced. Made reconciliation for a longitudinal-cutting machine to achieve higher speed paper cutting, and thus avoid being stifled revolving shafts paper.
Dmitry Romanov, the service Director of Segezha PPM, noted that all the equipment replacement carried out during the days of the shutdown will increase the production capacity of the plant.
“As a result of the work performed, the rejection and the number of unplanned downtimes will decrease, and with the installation of a new low — concentration grinding, we will improve the mechanical strength of the paper,” Dmitry Romanov stressed.
Initially, the shutdown of the BDM-9 was designed for 5 days and 18 hours, but the staff of the CCS and the personnel of contractors managed to significantly reduce the overhaul time. Sergey Toropov, managing Director for paper production at Segezha pulp and paper mill, thanked the employees of paper production, service management and contractors for their professionalism, of which 11 managers and specialists were awarded diplomas from the plant administration.
