Russian sawn timber market: results for 2020, outlook for 2021
After the dramatic production decline between 1993 and 2002, Russia has been consistently ramping up the output of sawn timber. It should be noted that the collection of statistics data by Rosstat does not cover small and medium-sized enterprises; consequently, information on their production performance is omitted by the statistics. Also, the state statistics has not been publishing data on the output with a breakdown by enterprises since 2017. Therefore, the official data differ significantly from the real situation in the industry. This year, various sources publishing Rosstat’s data on the output detect divergent trends for 2020. According to some sources of Rosstat’s data, the output increased, according to others – it declined. We understand that these are preliminary data for now and they may be revised after a while.
