Mikhail Mishustin announced the need to create new pulp & paper mills in Russia

28 August 2023 ` 16:25

The Russian timber industry needs to upgrade its facilities for more value-added wood processing, which specifically involves creating modern pulp & paper mills, declared Mikhail Mishustin, Russian Prime Minister, at the Innoprom 2023 exhibition.

Only a few large projects on creating or upgrading pulp & paper production venues are currently being implemented or considered in the country (construction of Segezha-Vostok and upgrading of Segezhsky PPM and Sokol Pulp and Paper Mill by Segezha Group; construction of a new pulp-and-cardboard mill in Ust-Ilimsk, Irkutsk Region by Ilim Group).

The Prime Minister also mentioned problems with equipment for the Russian timber industry, noting the shortage of harvesting machinery. Russian companies faced considerable challenges in the harvesting process after the leading global producers of specialized machinery (Ponsse, John Deere, Komatsu) left Russia.
