MDF/HDF market in Russia in 2017-2018

14 June 2018 ` 13:01

The Russian MDF/HDF market is one of the fastest growing in the world (CAGR 2010–2017: 17%, including through the low base effect). Although the share of Russian MDF/HDF producers in the world market is not more than 3%, Russia is included in the top 6 producer countries.

The available capacity of MDF/HDF plants in Russia is 3.965 million m3/year, enterprise workload — about 74% (2017). Weak financial sustainability and forest wood raw materials instability does not permit the company to reach close to a 100% workload. The worked and planned launch of capacities in Russia will suffice to cover the growing demand, taking into account the complete substitution of imports (except for narrow segments) and increasing export sales.

72% of MDF/HDF production volumes in Russia is controlled by companies with foreign capital: Kastamonu, Swiss Krono, Kronospan, Egger, “Asinovsky zavod MDF”.

WhatWood has recently prepared an annual update of study “MDF/HDF market  in Russia 2017-2018”.
