In Ukraine, forestry enterprises related to the management of the state Agency, introduce the latest technology of planting seedlings with a closed root system

This technology allows extending the time period of planting, as well as increases their resistance to disease when planting in the ground. This was reported by the press service of the state Agency of Ukraine.

“Today we have already at the exit the question of opening a large breeding and seed center in the Lviv region, to which we, foresters of Lviv region, together with all foresters of Ukraine went for two years of preparation. Technology with a closed root system of seedlings allows almost 100% survival and great resistance to disease. Secondly, it increases our planting time and opportunities – not only for spring or autumn but even in summer, ” said Vladimir Bondar, Deputy Chairman of the state forest resources Agency.

He said that the Lviv forest breeding and seed center is designed for 3 million seedlings per year with a closed root system, as well as 4 million seedlings with an improved root system. In 2018, the construction of this complex was spent almost 50 million UAH: 33 million UAH funds of state forestry enterprises and 16.3 million UAH from the regional budget. The total cost of the project is 86.2 mln UAH. Now the same installation with the sowing of seedlings with a closed root system has already been introduced in Khmelnitsky region. It is also planned to introduce technology in the Ternopil region.

Enterprises are finding opportunities to implement this technology at their own expense. This was done, for example, Slavutsky forestry in Khmelnitsky region, where they opened a pavilion for shading and automatic irrigation of seedlings with an area of 1.7 thousand square meters.m. for growing planting material with a closed root system. Now the pavilion is designed for 500,000 seedlings of forest species, and subject to an increase in the area of greenhouses by 1.5 million. Subsequently, it is planned to expand it and put the technology on the conveyor, which will provide the entire area with planting material with a closed root system. “We do not stand still and we try to implement these technologies. When the forestry development Fund is established, which is stipulated by the decree of the President of Ukraine, we will be able to introduce national programs, including programs of this nature. I hope that this direction will be developed and we will have a serious breakthrough in the qualitative reproduction of forests, ” – Vladimir Bondar summed up.
