FAO: Russian lumber production to grow by 3.5-4 million cu m by 2016
Rome, December 04. Logging and production of lumber, wood-based panels, pulp, and paper will further grow in Russia until 2030, as predicted by the experts in a joint study made by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation of United Nations) and Russian government.
In case of the most optimistic scenario, total production volume will grow twofold or even threefold by this time, compared to 2010. Due to numerous investment projects, lumber output is expected to rise by 3.5-4 million cu m by 2016.
However, the study suggests that greater investments are required to reach this goal. In the woodworking sector, investment in existing and new facilities is to be raised from 32.37 billion Rubles (€803 million) in 2010 up to 52.58 billion Rubles (€1.3 billion) by 2015. Moreover, investments in logging are to be increased more than five times up to 22.7 billion Rubles (€563 million) to procure enough logs for the processing industry.
