Export sales of the sawn softwood from Russia increased by 12% in 2017
In 2017, the export of Russian sawn softwood set a new record: 27.9 million m3 (+12.4%, YoY). This is the highest growth rate in the last 12 years. In 2005, export sales increased by 17% (YoY) to 14.78 million m3. In the period from 2006-2016 sales grew by an average of 5.6% per year.
Export growth was again ensured by China, which remained the largest consumer of Russian sawn softwood in 2017, increasing purchases by 20% (YoY) to 16.1 million m3. China’s share in the total supply volume of Russian sawn softwood for export was 58% (+4 percentage points, YoY).
Russian sawn softwood accounts for more than half of the import supply market in China. China imported about 58% of sawn softwood from Russia, 19.5% from Canada, 6.7% from Finland. In 2017, supply from Canada decreased by 4.5%, from Finland increased by 81%.
