Dissolving pulp and second-generation biofuel: Solombalales presented an innovative investment project
Solombalales company presented its investment project at the session of the Russian Chamber of Commerce. Chairman of the Council on strategic development of Solombalales Nikolai Lvov noted that the project is in the stage of concept development and invited all interested market players to its implementation.
The project, entitled SOLO, started in October 2013. Initially it was planned to construct a new plant for the production of unbleached softwood pulp, a traditional product which was made at stopped Solombala PPM. However, analysis of market situation showed that focus on this product is risky in the long run.
Within SOLO project, the company is considering construction of three interrelated capacities, the largest of them being a dissolving viscose pulp mill. The company is also considering construction of a second-generation biofuel capacity (bio-oil) and intends to complete the construction of a new sawmill.
A Finnish company Vision Hunters acts as project consulter. In a report, representatives of the company Kari Nerg and Eric Enqvist described the prospects of the project, possibilities of its implementation in Arkhangelsk region, and presented the analysis of product markets. According to Nerg, the project is already being studied by strategic investors.
The Chamber Committee decided to support the initiative and recommended that Arkhangelsk government, Ministry of industry and trade and Federal forestry agency use the measures of state support to this project.
