Lumber export from Russia in Q3 2012 grew by 5.7% to 4.9M cu m – WhatWood Analytics

Moscow, January 31. Lumber production in Russia in the third quarter of 2012 amounted to 7.4 million cu m, which is 1.9% higher year-on-year, with export growing by 5.7%, import – by 2%, according to the latest report by WhatWood analytic department.

In the export pattern, DAF and FCA delivery terms were the most popular. Jointly they had 67% of the total export volume. In the first quarter, export of softwood and hardwood lumber from Russia amounted to 3.9 million cu m, which was 7.6% less year-on-year. In the second quarter, export amounted to 5.4 million cu m, which was 0.9% higher than a year ago. In the third quarter, Russia exported 4.9 million cu m of lumber, which is 5.7% higher than a year ago.

Physical lumber export volume in January-September 2012 amounted to 14.3 million cu m, which is $2.46 billion in value terms.

Out of Top-20 lumber-importing countries, most showed negative growth in trade. The only countries that were able to increase lumber import were Egypt (+20.4%), Azerbaijan (+7.4%), Estonia (+9.8%), and South Korea (+2.4%).

After three quarters of 2012, China remained the leading importer of Russian lumber with 5.2 million cu m, which was 0.6% lower than a year ago. Customs value, however, grew by 4.7% up to $697 million. Share of China in total export was 36%.

Out of Top-20 companies exporting lumber only seven increased export in Jan-Sep 2012. Twenty leading companies exported 2.04 million cu m of lumber, which is 21.9% of the total volume. In financial terms, export of the Top-20 covered share of 25.4% ($416.3 million).
