World Forests during the Pandemic: USA and Canada

The Canadian Government has announced that it would allocate CAD$82 billion (equal to 3% of its GDP) to support the economy. The measures announced provide for up to CAD$27 billion in direct support to Canadian employees and businesses affected by COVID-19, and employers will receive other CAD$55 billion in tax deferrals. The USA can allocate up to 6% of its GDP to fight coronavirus and support the country’s economy. The government has defined forestry and the woodworking industry as “essential and critical” in the current conditions. This means that timber enterprises are allowed to work. However, some companies have reported about unfavorable output variances and a reduction in working hours.
