Swedish company Rorvik Timber AB has opened wood procurement office in Russia. Mikhail Zhurba is appointed its administrator. The company is going to increase significantly wood deliveries from Russia to its lumber mills in southern Sweden.

“Establishment of office at one of the largest wood markets along with increased logging around our mills and already opened procurement office in Norway will enable us to deliver raw wood for our facilities at long-term competitive prices,” as Rorvik Timber CEO Per Rodert said.

According to Swedish forestry service data available in WhatWood Weekly, in Q1 2013 pine sawlogs in Sweden cost SEK 448 ($68), spruce logs – SEK 476 ($73), while softwood pulplogs were traded at around SEK 280 ($43).

In the meantime, imported pine logs from Russia in February 2013 were 8% cheaper than Norwegian logs and 33% cheaper than Finnish logs on the Swedish market. Price of spruce sawlogs from Russia was 3.6% less than from Norway and 15% less than from Estonia. Russia is a major exporter of spruce logs to Sweden, while pine log deliveries are minor.

It is to note that 50.3% of Rorvik Timber belongs to entrepreneur Gennady Timchenko through Gunvor Group and Volga Resources.
