Segezha Group and Etalon Group initiated testing of CLT panels for making changes in building regulations

19 July 2019 ` 23:58

Segezha Group and Etalon Group (part of AFK ”Sistema”) initiated the process of finalizing the existing Russian standards for approval in the construction of administrative buildings and apartment buildings with the use of wooden structures, as well as the launch of full-scale testing procedures for these structures.

“In general, wooden structures, including CLT, have a very high fire resistance, while maintaining the bearing capacity and integrity. Future multi-storey buildings with the use of CLT must comply with the class of fire hazard K0 or K1”, – said the Vice-President of Segezha Group, head of the division “Housing” Dmitry Rudenko.

According to him, metal structures lose their bearing capacity quickly when heated. There are problems with prolonged fire exposure and concrete. In addition, the existing fire safety requirements in Russia and Europe are different, and for new materials – what are CLT-panels – tests were not carried out.
