Russia: wood pellet exports grew by 28% and totaled almost 2 million tons in 2019

Russian exports of wood pellets showed the highest growth dynamics among all export-oriented timber industry products in 2019: +28% totaling 1.94 million tons.

The data of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) showed that production had amounted to 1.6 million tons in 2019 (the figure for 2018 was 1.4 million tons). However, official statistics do not reflect the objective picture of production volumes. The actual production volume in Russia may have amounted to 2.3-2.5 million tons.

The largest exporter was the Arkhangelsk region (with ULK Group and Titan Group comprising 85% of its volume). The Irkutsk region is the second-largest supplier of wood pellets to export markets (with 45% of it supplied by Ind Timber and Omfal).
