Closure of Baikal pulpmill will possibly take up to six months, as VEB-Engineering Chief Executive Dmitry Sheibe said in an interview to Prime agency.

“Presently the mill employs 1646 people, one third of them will remain at the mill working at CHP, treatment facilities and water intake. (…) At the time, VEB is collaborating with local authorities on the reemployment plan”, Sheibe said.

“For establishment of free economic zone “The Gates of Baikal”, RUR 2.2 billion is allocated. This sum will possibly grow”, he concluded.

At the mill site, theme park “Inmost Russia” will be built, according to Izvestia paper. The park will become the heart of a new recreational zone and its major tourist attraction. It will help employ the people of Baikalsk town.

Tender for park construction will be announced soon. The project is to be approved in December 2013. The construction of the park will also be financed by VEB bank.
